Isabella 淑娇 Falsetti
Isabella is a multimedia journalist reporting on environmental solutions, social enterprise, and stories of identity and belonging. She is currently pursuing her master's degree at the Northwestern Medill School of Journalism in Chicago.
She got her start in journalism as the photo editor at The Ubyssey, the University of British Columbia’s student newspaper, and has since grown her practice as a photo apprentice at The Globe and Mail and through mentorship programs such as Room Up Front. She has produced writing and visuals for a range of media outlets, community organizations and international agencies — united by the common goal of documenting people with dignity.
Through her work, she seeks to address the fundamental question: who is being excluded from or misrepresented by the narratives we tell, and as journalists, how can we tell their stories better?
As a Chinese adoptee, she approaches storytelling with an open-minded curiosity about the complex experiences that shape who we are. To her, being a journalist has meant earning the trust to tell other people’s stories while developing the courage to share her own. She is working to expand a documentary project about Asian adoptees across North America and beyond.
